Photoproduction of Pions from many nucleon systems and some related electro-dynamic processes

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: 1963Description: v; 193pSubject(s): Online resources: Dissertation note: 1963Ph.DUniversity of Madras Abstract: The interaction between the elementary particles, is generally studied through collisions between them, where the particles are assumed to be in free state both before and after collision. The photo production of Pions from nucleons, is one of the reactions from the process of elementary particles collision, involving strong, electromagnetic interactions, assuming one of the particles concerned, in a bound state. This thesis deals with such problems of photo production of pions from bound nucleons in nuclei starting from the simplest case of deuterons, to more complex nuclei. The thesis is divided into five parts; Part (i) deals with photoproduction of pions from two or three nucleon systems; Part (ii) deals with the same process but from the complex nuclei, and using the shell model for many nucleon systems. Part (iii) deals with the polarisation phenomena, following the photoproduction of pions. Part (iv) deals with an unified method of calculating the cross section for second order radiative process; Part(v) deals with 2 chapters of Appendices - a time dependent approach to nuclear reaction channels; and, On the Wigner Sckart and projection theorems for first rank spherical tensor operators.
