TextPublication details: 2004Description: ix; 48pSubject(s): Online resources: Dissertation note: 2004M.ScAnna University Abstract: The general theory of Relativity and the scalar-Tensor theory are studied in general D dimensions stressing on Cosmology and the static spherically Schwarzchild solution. General Relativity is dealt with in Brief. Different aspects in the scalar-tensor theory like conformal transformation and geodesic equation in different conformal frames are then discussed. A specific form of the generalised Brans-Dicke action is considered and the solutions to the field equations in the cases of cosmology and Schwarzschild metric are worked out. A set of constraints are imposed on the free function of the action under consideration. The implications of these constraints on the two cases are studied.
